Book Review: Divine Evil

Divine Evil by Nora Roberts

GoodReads Synopsis:

A decade ago, sculptor Clare Kimball fled Emmitsboro, Maryland, to take the art world by storm. Now she’s celebrated as the artist of her generation. But no amount of success can eclipse the nightmares that haunt her—or the memories of her father’s suicide. Just as her star is shining brighter than ever, Clare leaves it all behind to face her demons.
Emmitsboro sheriff Cameron Rafferty loved Clare from afar all through high school. Now that she’s back, they form a bond that grows stronger each day—fueled by an attraction that’s been simmering for years. But Clare’s past soon rises up with a vengeance, rocking the town with a sinister murder that is clearly linked to her return. As an investigation gets under way, Clare and Cameron will learn that evil can linger anywhere—even in those you love and trust the most. But it’s a discovery that may come too late to save them.…

My Thoughts:

This is definitely one of Nora Roberts more sinister novels. I didn't know she had a twisted side to her! The book takes place in Emmitsboro, MD. (Is it just me, or does it seem like a lot of her novels revolve around Maryland?)
The main character, Clare, is just like any typical Nora book: Young, strong, independent and determined. (Sound familiar?) She moves back to her hometown and has nightmares. Little does she know, these "nightmares" are really old memories. As usual, in every Nora book, a man comes swooping in to save the day! That would be Sheriff Cameron Rafferty.
In this book, she wrote about this creepy town and townsmen that were secretly full of satanic rituals and worshiping.   It ended pretty much the same as any other novel she writes.
Have you read this one? What did you think? I'd love to hear about it!

My Top 5 Netflix Favorites

#1. Between
I have to admit, this is my favorite at the moment. I just finished the series and now I am super bummed. Netflix synopsis: After a mysterious disease kills every resident over 22 years old, survivors of a town must fend for themselves when the government quarantines them.

Let me just tell you, it's worse than The Walking Dead when it comes to killing off characters.  It's so good I couldn't get enough!

# 2. Being Human
If you watch this, you must watch the BBC version.  It's way better than the American one.  I started watching this series when it first started viewing in the states.  I loved it! Then, I couldn't find it again. When I found it on Netflix, I was so happy! Netflix synopsis: Trying to fit into modern society is a vexing-- and often impossible-- challenge for a genius werewolf, a flighty ghost and an urbane vampire who share a household in this engaging supernatural drama.

# 3. Scrotal Recall
I found this hilarious British comedy and instantly loved it.  The last episode of the series was a little sad, but worth watching.  You can't help but to not like poor Dylan and his crap luck with love. Netflix synopsis: In his quest for true love, Dylan found chlamydia. Joined by friends Evie and Luke, he relives past encounters as he notifies all his former partners.

# 4. Orange is the New Black
Okay, first of all, this series is NOT like the book.  I started watching the series because I read the book.  I am very disappointed how it doesn't follow the book, however, the series overall is pretty good! Netflix synopsis: A privileged New Yorker ends up in a women's prison when a past crime catches up with her.

# 5. Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp
Have you ever seen the movie? It is a hilarious cult classic about the last day of camp. So many major movie stars! If you love Saturday Night Live, you will probably like the movie. The series however, is about the first day of camp. Netflix synopsis: It's the first day of camp in this outrageous prequel to the hilarious 2001 cult classic movie. And at Camp Firewood, anything can happen.

Book Review: The Goldfinch

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

GoodReads Synopsis:

It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a thirteen-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.
As an adult, Theo moves silkily between the drawing rooms of the rich and the dusty labyrinth of an antiques store where he works. He is alienated and in love-and at the center of a narrowing, ever more dangerous circle.
The Goldfinch is a novel of shocking narrative energy and power. It combines unforgettably vivid characters, mesmerizing language, and breathtaking suspense, while plumbing with a philosopher's calm the deepest mysteries of love, identity, and art. It is a beautiful, stay-up-all-night and tell-all-your-friends triumph, an old-fashioned story of loss and obsession, survival and self-invention, and the ruthless machinations of fate.

My Thoughts:

Oh my, where to begin? First of all, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to read this! It was long! Donna Tartt writes kinda like Stephen King in the sense that sometimes they go off on tangents or ridiculous details, and you get annoyed thinking; "come on! Get on with the story already!" (If you read a lot of King books, you know what I mean! I love me some King novels, but seriously!) If there were an abridged version of the book, I feel like I would have loved it more, not wasted so much time and still wouldn't have missed anything!
Don't get me wrong, I loved the book! It was very beautifully written. It just dragged on for too long. It felt like it had a Dicken's Great Expectations kind of feel to it. I loved how it made me think of such a wonderful classic. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars on GoodReads.

June Favorites

1. Jack Black Lip Balm. It has SPF 25 and has a refreshing minty flavor.

2. Benefit Dandelion lip gloss.  This is a beautiful nude-ish lip color.

3. Mario Badescu rose water spray.  I took this with me when I went on vacation, and I am sooo glad I did! I sprayed this on my face after being in the sun and it made my face feel refreshed and amazing!

4. Clinique Oil-free Super City Block sunscreen with SPF 40.  I NEVER leave the house without my sun protection on!

5. Nip Fab Energy Boost body wash.  I love this fabulous citrus-like smell when I lather up in the shower.

6. Vaseline Aloe Fresh gel moisturizer.  I can't tell you enough how much I LOVE this stuff!!! This is one of my summer staples.  I love moisturizing when I first get out of the shower, but I hate how regular lotion "melts" right off of me in summer months. This stuff absorbs without making me feel melted when I'm in the heat.

7. Aussie 3 Minute Miracle.  This stuff is amazing!!!!! It is my absolute favorite drug store hair mask.  It makes my hair feel so soft and healthy.  The have other 3 Minute Miracles, but I wanted to use the Moist one.
