Top 5 of the Week

1. I love my Lady of the House Downton Abbey coffee mug!

2. My sister made me a grilled cheese!!!! I know this is something unimportant to others, but to me, its a big deal! My sister was so sick for so long. Just the simple act of walking across the room completely wore her out and made her tired. Now, since transplant, she is doing so many normal activities of daily living that other people take for granted. I was so grateful for this grilled cheese.

3. Oh my goodness!!!!!! Y'all know how much I love Kimberly Jones Pothier.  I have mentioned her before.  She is very inspiring and empowers women. I was scrolling through facebook the other day and saw this.  She is going to be on a show!!!! Preachers of Atlanta. I can't wait to watch it!

4. I picked up some amazing beauty deals from Target clearance!!!

5. I am a forensics junkie/lab nerd. (I am a Laboratory Technician...so that may explain a lot!) I am obsessed with this new crime show that is happening in real time. If you like forensic files, you will probably like this too!!!

Top 5 of The Week

1. Favorite bible verse of the week- I have the YouVersion Bible app on my phone. I love this app. I can read the bible anywhere I go, plus it gives me the option to highlight the passages I like. It also gives me the option to take the bible verse of the day, and make a beautiful picture out of it. This was especially fitting for me this week, an extra reminder to always be nice, even to people who have hurt me.

2. Yogi Tea- I love Yogi teas! I have 3 different kinds in my cupboard. What I love most about this brand is the inspirational quotes on the tabs.

3. Zulily- Have you seen that post on facebook that has been circulating about one woman's customer service on Zulily? She said she had an issue with an article of clothing on Zulily and wanted to send it back and they told her they would fix the problem, but not send back the clothing, just give it to her favorite charity. Well, I ordered this jacket on Zulily. When it finally arrived, they sent two.  I checked my billing statement to make sure I didn't accidentally buy two. I didn't, so I called customer service. I explained to them what happened and was going to ask about how to return it when the lady from customer service told me that it was totally their fault and to just go ahead and give it to my favorite charity or someone in need.  This just made me love Zulily even more!

4. Adult Coloring Book- I jumped on the adult coloring bandwagon! I love it and I am not ashamed!!! Perfect for the snow day I just had!

5. We got snow! About 23 inches to be exact! I am over the snow. Yes, it is pretty, but I hate being snowed in!

Eye Shadows I've been Obsessed With

I have been quite obsessed with teal-ish green color lately. I decided to pair these eye colors last week and now I can't stop wearing it!!! I am so bummed because the lighting sucks in my makeup room and the pictures just don't do my eyes any justice.

Book Review: Pretty Girls

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter

GoodReads Synopsis:

#1 internationally bestselling author Karin Slaughter returns with a sophisticated and chilling psychological thriller of dangerous secrets, cold vengeance, and unexpected absolution, in which two estranged sisters must come together to find truth about two harrowing tragedies, twenty years apart, that devastate their lives.
Sisters. Strangers. Survivors.
More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia's teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that's cruelly ripped open when Claire's husband is killed.
The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago . . . and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.
Powerful, poignant, and utterly gripping, packed with indelible characters and unforgettable twists, Pretty Girls is a masterful thriller from one of the finest suspense writers working today.

My Thoughts:

This was the first Karin Slaughter book I have read. It was thrilling and suspenseful! Have you ever seen the Nicolas Cage movie 8mm? It reminded me a  lot of that; It's also about a snuff porn ring. Definitely kept my attention and made me want to keep turning the pages no matter how tired I was. I love how its not one of those rolling-your-eyes books where you can predict of the next cheesy moves the characters are going to make. I definitely recommend it!

About those "good deeds"...

When I read this verse, it really spoke to me. I've never been one for the spotlight or one for attention. But it reminded me of a someone that I used to know.  She loved to pat herself on the back. She would constantly post about all the volunteer work she did and every time she did a "good deed." It got to the point where people would roll their eyes.

A good deed isn't a good deed if you have to brag about it.

It's great to do lots of volunteer work. It's okay to try to promote it somehow in order to make awareness for the cause, or to fundraise. But it's not from a good place in your heart if you have to boast

This year, I want to do at least one act of random kindness or good deed each week. I don't need to brag or boast, just knowing I did something for someone else makes me feel good inside. That is going to be one of my goals.

Will you join me?

Top 5 of the Week

1. Happy New Year! This year, we rang in the New Year with my sister in the hospital! We are so thankful to for her donor.  Because of their selfless act, my sister can spend many more New Years with us!

2. Organizing- I started off the new year cleaning and organizing! This is only 1/10th of my whole makeup collection! I have way too much.  I threw out the old, and giving away the good products I don't use.

3. Calendar- I found this awesome calendar at Hobby Lobby. I love anything positive or inspirational! I am trying to surround myself in positivity this year.

4. Hat- I absolutely adore my new hat from Target! It was $19.99 and I got it for 25% off with my cartwheel app!

5. Devotional- I like my new Devotional for this year. Unfortunately, this one doesn't have 366! As I was writing in important dates on my new calendar, I realized this year is leap year!
